Vikings Earn The Series Sweep Over Robert Morris

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State volleyball team picked up its second series sweep of the 2021 campaign Tuesday, following a 3-0 victory over Robert Morris. With the win, the Vikings are now 7-5 on the season.

Match Stats
· Hannah Greene finished with 12 kills, while Peyton Bloomer added 11 kills.
· Abby Miller finished the match with 39 assists.
· Caroline Kucia and Audrey McConihe both finished with 17 digs, while Abby Miller added 10.
· Hannah Greene posted a team-high six block assists, while London Portis added four block assists.
· As a team, the Vikings posted a .347 hitting percentage, while the Viking defense held Robert Morris to a .089 clip.

Match Notes
· With Tuesday's win, the Vikings picked up their second series sweep of the season (Green Bay).
· With her six total blocks against the Colonials, Hannah Greene moved into eighth place in the CSU Career Record Book with 373 total blocks.
· Freshman libero Caroline Kucia tied her career-high with 17 digs on the match.
· The Vikings now stand at 31-1 against Robert Morris all-time.

The Match
After jumping out to a 4-0 lead to begin the first set, the Vikings were able to quickly extend their lead to 8-1 over the next few plays, and then held a sizeable advantage for the remainder of the frame. Following four straight points midway through the set, Cleveland State gained a 19-11 advantage on a Caroline Kucia service ace, and then went on to claim the 25-16 first set victory on a London Portis kill.

The second set was much of the same, as the Vikings got out to another early 4-0 lead, and then held off a Robert Morris run to gain a 15-9 advantage midway through the frame. The Vikings then posted five of the next six points, extending their lead to 20-10 on an Audrey McConihe service ace. Cleveland State then put the frame away on an Emily DeGeorge kill, gaining the 2-0 match lead.

Although the Vikings weren't able to get out to a quick lead during the third set, they were still able to gain a 12-9 advantage midway through the frame on a Colonial error. The Vikings then added to their lead over the next few plays, gaining a 17-11 advantage on yet another service ace, this time from Halle Schoen. Cleveland State then controlled play throughout the rest of the frame, picking up the 25-14 third set victory to claim their second straight 3-0 sweep.
