Vikings Earn Series Sweep At Green Bay With 3-1 Victory

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Cleveland State volleyball team wrapped up its first week of the 2021 season Tuesday afternoon, as the Vikings earned a 3-1 victory at Green Bay to complete the series sweep of the Phoenix.

Match Stats
• The Cleveland State offense was led by London Portis and Hannah Greene who recorded 13 and 12 kills, respectively.
London Portis recorded her 13 kills on a .600 hitting percentage (13-1-20).
Abby Miller finished the match with 36 assists on Cleveland State's 49 total kills.
• Defensively, the Vikings had four players finish with double-digit digs, led by Lindsey Tout with 19. Audrey McConihe added 12, Emily DeGeorge finished with 11 and Abby Miller chipped in 10 digs.
• As a team, the Vikings recorded 13 total blocks, with Hannah Greene notching eight and London Portis finishing with six.
Emily DeGeorge finished with a team-high four service aces, while Lindsey Tout added four. 
• The Viking defense held Green Bay to a .049 hitting percentage on the match.

Match Notes
• With her 13 kills at Green Bay, London Portis notched a career-high, while her .600 hitting percentage tied her career-best clip.
Abby Miller recorded her first collegiate double-double with 36 assists and 10 digs against the Phoenix.
• Tuesday's victory gave the Vikings the series sweep of the Phoenix.
• After picking up a 3-1 win on Tuesday, Cleveland State is 2-0 to start #HLVB play for the fifth time under head coach Chuck Voss.
• The Vikings are now 45-19 all-time against Green Bay.

The Match
After dropping the first set, the Vikings were able to even the match score with a 25-13 victory during the second set, as they got out to a quick 10-5 lead and then held a sizeable advantage for the rest of the frame.  

The Vikings were then able to maintain control throughout the third set, as they got out to a 12-8 lead midway through the frame on a London Portis kill, and then went on to score five of the next seven points to extend their lead to 17-10. 

A few plays later, Cleveland State gained a double-digit lead at the 23-13 mark following a pair of Green Bay errors, and then went on to close out the frame with a 25-15 victory to take a 2-1 lead in the match.

During the fourth and final set, the Vikings opened up with a 6-0 run, and then cruised to a 15-2 lead before earning the 25-19 fourth-set victory to capture the 3-1 match win over the Phoenix.

Cleveland State will host Milwaukee in its 2021 home opener next week, as the Vikings are scheduled to host the Panthers on Monday, February 1 and Tuesday, February 2.
