The Cleveland State volleyball team will close out its current four-match roadswing this weekend, traveling to Youngstown State on Friday, November 1 and Oakland on Saturday, November 2.
HALL & GREENE ON THE ATTACK
So far this season, the majority of Cleveland State's offense has run through the duo of Trinniti Hall and Hannah Greene, as they are responsible for 532 total kills - 53-percent of the CSU offense. Hall has a team-best 281 kills this year, while Greene enters the weekend with 251 total kills. Hall (3rd - 3.39) and Greene (5th - 3.02) both rank in the top-five among league players in kills per set, while Greene also ranks sixth with a .286 hitting percentage on the year.
GRECOL ON THE CSU CAREER ASSIST TOP-10 LIST
Sophomore Christina Grecol eclipsed the 1,800-assist mark for her career earlier this season, and enters Friday's match at Youngstown State with 1,885 career assists. Grecol currently ranks ninth in the CSU Career Record Book, and needs 57 more helpers to move into eighth place on the list. Grecol, who ranks second among league players averaging 9.68 assists per set this season, is one of just nine Vikings all-time to reach 1,800 career assists.
DeGEORGE NOTCHES 1,000th CAREER DIG
After posting a team-high 20 digs against Youngstown State earlier this season, junior Emily DeGeorge recorded the 1,000th dig of her career, and enters the weekend with 1,036 career digs. DeGeorge, who became the 20th Viking all-time to reach the 1,000-dig plateau, is averaging 3.30 digs per set this season, and has recorded 20+ digs during three matches.
…CLOSING IN ON CSU CAREER DIGS LIST
Entering this weekend's roadtrip to YSU and Oakland, Emily DeGeorge is just shy of earning a spot on the top-10 list in the CSU Career Record Book with her 1,036 total digs. DeGeorge, who needs 71 more digs to crack the top-10, would become the second active Viking to rank in the top-10 in the CSU Career Record Book.
PENFIELD MAKES COLLEGIATE DEBUT
After making her collegiate debut against Oakland earlier this season, freshman Chelsea Penfield has had an immediate impact on the Viking lineup, averaging 1.58 blocks per set through just three matches played. Penfield has recorded four or more blocks in each match she has appeared in, including a season-high eight total blocks against Oakland. Penfield is part of a Cleveland State lineup that is averaging 2.43 blocks per set this season, ranking third in the #HLVB standings.
TOUT LEADING THE VIKING DEFENSE
Entering this weekend's matches, Cleveland State ranks third in the #HLVB standings averaging 17.47 digs per set as a team, led by libero Lindsey Tout who ranks sixth individually with a 4.34 digs per set average. Tout is joined on the backline by junior Emily DeGeorge (3.30 dps) and freshman Audrey McConihe (2.45 dps), along with Julia Piccolino (1.75 dps) and Halle Schoen (1.36 dps).
…HALL WITH THE DOUBLE-DOUBLE
Senior Trinniti Hall has had to move into a new role over the last few weeks following an adjustment to the Viking lineup, and is now an integral part of the Viking backrow. Over the last three matches, Hall is averaging 3.08 digs per set, and has posted double-doubles in two of the three contests. Last time out, Hall recorded a career-high 15 digs at Milwaukee to go along with 19 kills - which marked a season-high for the senior in #HLVB play.
HEAD COACH CHUCK VOSS
Chuck Voss is in his 20th season at the helm of the Vikings, and owns a 359-231 (.608) overall record at Cleveland State. Under Voss the Vikings have recorded 16 winning seasons, including 10 straight entering the 2019 season. Cleveland State has eclipsed the 20-win mark eight times since Voss took over the program, and has captured Horizon League Tournament titles five times (2007, 2012, 2015, 2016 & 2017) under his guidance. During the 2016 season Voss became the all-time winningest coach in program history, and then last season became the only active Horizon League coach to reach the 350-win mark at their current school.
