INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Cleveland State volleyball team dropped a hard fought five-set match at IUPUI Wednesday evening, falling to 16-9 on the year and 10-3 in Horizon League play.

Trinniti Hall led the Viking offense with 17 kills on the night, while Emily DeGeorge and Sara Skeens both added 12. Christina Grecol notched 44 assists against IUPUI, along with five digs and three blocks.
Defensively, the Vikings were led by Rachael Dohar and DeGeorge, as they both recorded 24 digs on the night. Jordan Verbiak also added a double-digit dig match for the Vikings, finishing with 16.
As a team, the Vikings recorded 12.0 total blocks, including seven from Hannah Greene and six from Hall.
Wednesday's loss snapped a four-match winstreak for the Vikings, and dropped Cleveland State into second place in the Horizon League standings with just three matches left to play.
After dropping the first set, Cleveland State stormed back during the second frame, picking up a 25-13 victory to even the match at 1-1 heading into the intermission. To begin the second set, both teams traded points throughout the first part of the frame, until the Vikings went on a 6-0 run to gain a 17-11 advantage on a Hall kill. Cleveland State then held the momentum throughout the final part of the set, closing the frame on a Skeens and Greene block after posting the final four points of the set.
The third set was much tighter then, as the Vikings battled for a slim 25-23 victory to gain a 2-1 advantage in the match. Both teams traded leads throughout the entire frame, with neither team gaining more than a three-point advantage during the set. Despite trailing 23-22 late in the frame, Cleveland State tallied the final three points, including a Skeens kill and a Hall service ace as the final two points.
IUPUI was then able to even the match at two sets each with a fourth set victory, and carried this momentum into the fifth and deciding frame. After trading points to begin the set, IUPUI gained a 10-7 lead, and went on to control play for the remainder of the frame to pick up the 15-10 fifth set victory.
