Skeens Picks Up #HLVB Offensive Player Of The Week Honors

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – After leading the Cleveland State volleyball team to a pair of crucial #HLVB wins last weekend, junior Sara Skeens has been named the Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week. This marks the second weekly accolade for Skeens this season, while it marks the fifth weekly honor for the Vikings.

Last weekend, Skeens and the Vikings moved into a tie for first place in the league standings following a 3-2 victory against UIC and a 3-0 sweep over Green Bay. With the two wins, Cleveland State improved to 16-8 overall this year and 10-2 in #HLVB play.

During the two matches, Skeens averaged 4.12 kills per set on a .333 hitting percentage, helping the Vikings knock off the top two teams in the league standings. Skeens posted a team-high 16 kills against UIC, and then followed that up with a team-best 17 kills against Green Bay.

Last weekend's matches marked the 14th and 15th double-digit kill matches for Skeens this season, with nine of them coming against league opponents.

For the season, Skeens leads the Vikings and ranks fifth among league players averaging 3.03 kills per set, while she is averaging a team-best 3.23 kills per set in #HLVB matches only.

Skeens and the Vikings will continue Horizon League play with a pair of matches this week, traveling to IUPUI on Wednesday, October 31 and hosting Milwaukee on Sunday, November 4.
