Hall Records Career-High 24 Kills As Vikings Take Down Oakland

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Behind a career-high 24 kills from Trinniti Hall, the Cleveland State volleyball team pulled out a five-set victory against Oakland Sunday, improving to 14-8 overall this season and 8-2 in Horizon League play.

Trinniti Hall led the Viking offense with a career-high 24 kills, while Sara Skeens added 13 kills and Rachel Stover finished with nine kills. Christina Grecol recorded a career-high 54 assists against Oakland, marking the second time this season that she eclipsed the 50-assist mark.

Three Vikings finished with double-digit digs to lead the Viking defense, including Rachael Dohar who finished with 20 for her 10th 20-dig match of the year. Emily DeGeorge added 16 digs on the match, while MacKenzie Conner recorded 14.

As a team, the Vikings notched 13.0 total blocks, with eight from Stover and seven from Hall.

After dropping the opening set the Vikings were able to even the match with a 25-16 victory during the second frame, jumping out to a 13-10 lead and then rattling off six straight points to gain a 19-11 advantage. From here, the Vikings were able to control the rest of the frame, and closed out the set with a Stover kill.

The Vikings were then able to gain a 2-1 advantage in the match with a 25-21 third set victory. After trading points throughout the first part of the frame, Cleveland State had to battle back from a 16-13 deficit, going on a 6-2 run to gain a 19-18 lead on an Oakland error. The Vikings were then able to close out the set with a block from Grecol and Hall, earning the 25-21 victory.

Oakland was then able to pick up a win in the fourth set, forcing a fifth and deciding frame. The Vikings were able to get out to a quick 3-0 lead during the fifth set, and then carried their momentum throughout the rest of the frame. The Vikings picked up the 15-10 fifth set victory on a DeGeorge kill, earning their third fifth-set win of the year.
