CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State volleyball team remained perfect on the season Saturday afternoon, picking up a 3-0 victory over Canisius to capture the CSU Invitational Tournament title. The Vikings improved to 3-0 on the season with Saturday's win, and have now won six titles over the first weekend of play.

Trinniti Hall was named the CSU Invitational Tournament MVP after notching a team-high 31 kills on the weekend along with 13 total blocks. Hannah Greene and Rachael Dohar each earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team, with Greene combining for 22 total blocks and 17 kills on a .424 hitting percentage, and Dohar posting a team-best 37 digs on the weekend.

The Vikings improved to 3-0 for the sixth time under head coach Chuck Voss Saturday, posting their second sweep of the season with a 3-0 victory over Canisius.
Trinniti Hall led the Viking offense with 12 kills on a .545 hitting percentage, while Ambre Pierce posted a career-high seven kills and Sara Skeens also added seven. Christina Grecol notched 32 assists on Cleveland State's 40 total kills, while Katie Jorn saw action for the first time in a Cleveland State uniform picking up one assist.
Rachael Dohar tallied 15 digs to lead the Viking defense, while MacKenzie Conner recorded the first double-digit dig match of her collegiate career with 10 digs against Canisius.
Hannah Greene finished with four blocks on the match, while Grecol and Pierce each added three.
Lindsey Tout appeared in her first collegiate match, picking up three digs for the Vikings.
During the opening set Cleveland State got out to a quick 4-0 lead following a trio of kills from Hall, Rachel Stover and Pierce, and then held the advantage for the rest of the frame. With the 18-13 lead, the Vikings went on to post the final seven points of the set, earning the 25-13 victory with three straight kills from Skeens.
The second set was much of the same, as the Vikings were able to jump out to another early lead, and then maintained control for the rest of the set, earning the matching 25-13 set victory.
The momentum shifted during the third set then, as Canisius was able to gain an early 7-4 lead – their first of the match. The Vikings battled back midway through the frame though, eventually tying the contest at 14-14 following kills from Hall and Pierce, and then gaining a two-point advantage on an Emily DeGeorge kill and a Grecol and Pierce block. Cleveland State was then able to hold the edge for the rest of the set, closing out the frame and clinching the match with a 25-21 third set victory.

Cleveland State will hit the road for the first time during 2018, taking part in the Michigan Invitational next Friday and Saturday (August 31 – September 1). The Vikings will face Michigan, Eastern Michigan and Harvard during the two-day tournament.
