Vikings Extend Winstreak With 3-1 Victory At IUPUI

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Cleveland State volleyball team continued its winning ways Saturday afternoon, picking up a 3-1 victory at Horizon League leader IUPUI. With the win, the Vikings are now 16-7 overall this season and 9-3 in league play.

Match Stats
· Four Vikings finished the match with double-digit kills, led by Sara Skeens with 19.
· Emily DeGeorge added 16 kills for the Viking offense, while Alexis Middlebrooks and Rachel Stover both added 12.
· Gina Kilner posted 55 assists on the match.
· The Viking defense had five Vikings finish with double-digit digs, led by Shannon Grega and Emily DeGeorge with 19 each.
· Rachael Dohar added 12 digs, while Jordan Verbiak posted 11 and Gina Kilner added 10.
· The trio of Alexis Middlebrooks, Gina Kilner, and Trinniti Hall all recorded three total blocks.

Match Notes
· Saturday's win extended Cleveland State's current winstreak to six straight matches, as the Vikings went 7-1 during the month of October.
· Saturday's win also moved Cleveland State into a tie for first place in the league standings, as the Vikings join Oakland and IUPUI with a 9-3 #HLVB record.
· Sara Skeens recorded a career-high for the second straight match with her 19 kills against IUPUI.
· Emily DeGeorge notched her fifth double-double of the season with a career-high 16 kills and 19 digs.
· Rachael Dohar once again tied her career-high with 12 digs against IUPUI.
· Gina Kilner posted her seventh double-double with 55 assists and 10 kills.
· The Vikings posted a season-best 72 kills on the match.

The Match
During the opening set the two teams traded points until the midway point, when IUPUI was able to gain a 12-9 advantage forcing a Cleveland State timeout. Out of the timeout, the Vikings were able to post seven of the next nine points to erase the deficit and gain a two-point lead at 16-14 following a pair of kills from Emily DeGeorge and Rachel Stover. The Vikings then went on to hold this advantage for the rest of the frame, and held off a late Jaguar run to pick up the 25-20 set victory on a Sara Skeens kill.

After dropping the second set, the Vikings came out strong during the third and fourth frames, gaining control early on in both sets to pick up the 3-1 match victory.

During the third set the Vikings were able to gain a five-point lead at the 12-7 mark following an 8-1 run, and went on to hold at least a four-point advantage for the remainder of the set. Cleveland State was able to post three of the final four points of the frame, two on a pair of Stover kills and one on an IUPUI error.

The fourth frame was much of the same, as Cleveland State jumped out to a 17-7 lead following a 5-0 run, and went on to control play throughout the rest of the set. After gaining a 10-point lead on an IUPUI error, Cleveland State held a sizeable advantage throughout the final part of the contest. The Vikings closed out the frame by posting the final three points, two on kills from Trinniti Hall and Stover and another on a Jaguar error.

CSU Career Record Book
· With her 19 digs against IUPUI, Shannon Grega eclipsed the 1,350-dig mark for her career, finishing the match with 1,357 digs.
