Vikings Pick Up 3-1 Victory Against Milwaukee

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State volleyball team continued its winning ways Saturday afternoon, picking up a 3-1 victory over Milwaukee. With the win, the Vikings improved to 14-7 overall this season and 7-3 in Horizon League play.

Match Stats
· The trio of Alexis Middlebrooks, Gina Kilner and Trinniti Hall led the Viking offense – Middlebrooks and Kilner with 11 kills each and Hall with 10 kills.
· Gina Kilner posted 38 assists on the match.
· Shannon Grega had a team-best 23 digs, while Emily DeGeorge added 18.
· Trinniti Hall and Gina Kilner both recorded four total blocks, while Rachel Stover and Alexis Middlebrooks added three.
· Shannon Grega posted two service aces on the match, while Alexis Middlebrooks and Gina Kilner each recorded one.
· As a team, the Vikings posted a .321 hitting percentage, including a .474 clip from Alexis Middlebrooks.

Match Notes
· Saturday's win marked the fourth straight victory for the Vikings and their fifth out of the last six matches.
· Gina Kilner recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 38 assists and a career-high tying 11 kills.
· Shannon Grega notched her sixth 20-dig match of the season and was just shy of tying her career-high with 23 digs.

The Match
Cleveland State was able to post the first three points of the opening set on a Shannon Grega service ace, Emily DeGeorge kill and a Milwaukee error, gaining a lead that the Vikings would hold for the remainder of the frame. Midway through the frame Cleveland State was able to gain a five-point advantage at the 17-12 mark following a pair of Trinniti Hall kills, and then held off a late Milwaukee push to earn the 25-19 set victory after forcing a Panther error.

Despite dropping the second set, the Vikings rebounded during the third and fourth frames, cruising to 25-14 and 25-18 victories, respectively. During both frames the Vikings were able to gain early leads and then controlled play throughout the rest of the frame. Cleveland State picked up both set victories on kills – DeGeorge during the third frame and Middlebrooks during the final set.

CSU Career Record Book
· With her 38 assists against Milwaukee, Gina Kilner moved into third place in the CSU Career Record Book with 4,078 career assists.
· After posting 23 digs on the match, Shannon Grega eclipsed the 1,300-dig mark for her career, finishing the match with 1,318 career digs.
· Alexis Middlebrooks is now tied for fifth in the CSU Career Record Book with 420 total career blocks, after finishing with three against Milwaukee.
