Grega Named #HLVB Defensive Player Of The Week

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Cleveland State volleyball team picked up its second #HLVB weekly award of the season Monday afternoon, as Shannon Grega was named the Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week. This marks the second time that Grega has been honored with a weekly accolade by the league.

In the two matches last weekend, Grega combined for 43 total digs, averaging 6.14 digs per set. She opened the weekend with a 19-dig effort against Youngstown State, and followed that up with a career-high tying 24 digs at Oakland.

Grega also added 10 assists and one service ace on the weekend.

For the season, Grega ranks second among league players averaging 4.68 digs per set, while she is tops in the standings with 5.22 digs per set in league matches only. Through 17 matches this year, she has tallied 15+ digs during 14 contests, including five 20-dig performances.

Following her 43 digs against YSU and Oakland, Grega now ranks fourth in the CSU Career Record Book with 1,248 career digs. With just two more digs, she would become just the fourth Viking all-time to eclipse the 1,250-dig plateau.

Grega and Vikings will continue the 2017 season with a pair of matches this week, hosting Northern Kentucky on Wednesday, October 11 and traveling to Green Bay on Friday, October 13.
