Kelly Svoboda Joins Volleyball Staff

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State volleyball head coach Chuck Voss announced the addition of Cleveland native Kelly Svoboda to his coaching staff for the upcoming 2017 season, as Svoboda will serve as an assistant coach with the Vikings.

Svoboda joins the Viking coaching staff after serving in the same position for three seasons at Fairfield University.

During her tenure at Fairfield, Svoboda helped the Stags to a 68-28 record, including a 28-6 mark during the 2016 campaign. With Svoboda on the sidelines, the Stags captured back-to-back MAAC Tournament Championships during the 2015 and 2016 seasons, while also claiming the MAAC Regular Season title during both years.

Svoboda played her collegiate volleyball at Buffalo, where she was the team's primary libero throughout her four-year career. As a two-year captain for the Bulls, Svoboda holds the program record for career digs with 1,928, while she also holds the single-season record after posting 634 digs as a senior.

Following her senior campaign, Svoboda was named the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Year and earned a spot on the All-MAC First Team, becoming the first Buffalo player to earn either honor in the Mid-American Conference.

A native of Cleveland, Svoboda played her high school volleyball at Trinity, while playing her club volleyball with Cleveland Volleyball Company.
