Kauth Picks Up Second Straight Horizon League Scholar-Athlete Of The Fall Honor

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the second straight year, Cleveland State volleyball standout Grace Kauth has been honored for her academic achievements, as the senior outside hitter has been named the Horizon League Scholar-Athlete of the Fall Season. The league made the announcement Wednesday morning.

As a marketing major, Kauth carries a 3.88 cumulative grade-point average, and has been named to the Cleveland State Dean's List every semester she has been eligible. Earlier this season, she was named one of 30 candidates for the Senior CLASS Award, with excellence in community, classroom, character, and competition.

She has earned a spot on the Horizon League Fall Academic Team as a sophomore, junior, and senior, and is a three-time Cleveland State Athletic Academic honoree. In addition to serving as a captain of the volleyball team, Kauth was also selected as the Cleveland State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee President for the 2016-17 academic year.

On the court, Kauth will graduate as one of the best all-around players in program history. As a senior this year, Kauth led the Vikings to Horizon League Regular Season and Tournament titles, making Cleveland State the first league team to win back-to-back titles since the 2008 and 2009 seasons. Kauth was an instrumental part of Cleveland State's 25-win season, picking up Horizon League Player and Offensive Player of the Year Honors – just the fourth Viking to earn the accolade.

The Vandalia, Ohio native finished her Viking career ranked in the top-10 in seven categories in the CSU Career Record book, and became just the sixth Viking all-time to record 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs. Kauth ended her Viking career ranked third with 1,457 career kills and fourth with 1,240 career digs – the only Viking to rank in the top-five in both categories. She also ranked in the top-10 in kills per set (6th – 3.18), attack attempts (2nd – 4,345), total points (3rd – 1,663), points per set (7th – 3.63), and sets played (5th – 458).

This marks the second year that the Horizon League will recognize outstanding student-athletes at the conclusion of each of its three athletic seasons. To be eligible for Scholar-Athlete of the Season consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or higher and have a combination of athletic and academic achievements.
