Volleyball Winstreak Snapped At Northern Kentucky

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Cleveland State volleyball team dropped its first match in Horizon League play Tuesday evening, falling at Northern Kentucky in a five-set battle. The Vikings, who had their eight-match winstreak snapped by the Norse, fall to 16-4 overall this season and 5-1 in league action.

Match Stats
· Grace Kauth and Christina Toth each tallied 15 kills for the Vikings.
· Gina Kilner tallied 45 assists along with nine digs and six kills.
· Dayna Roberts posted a team-high 19 digs on the match, while Shannon Grega added 12 digs.
· Alexis Middlebrooks tied her career-high with nine blocks on the match, while the Vikings tallied 12.5 blocks as a team – the eighth double-digit block match of the season for CSU.
· Grace Kauth notched her second straight double-double with 15 kills and 10 digs.
· CSU, who entered the match with a league-high .265 hitting percentage, managed to post just a .196 clip against the Norse.

Match Notes
· Tuesday's loss at Northern Kentucky snapped an eight-match winstreak for the Vikings, and marked the first loss in Horizon League play for Cleveland State this season.
· With her 45 assists, Gina Kilner now ranks 10th on the CSU career assists list with 1,384.
· Grace Kauth surpassed the 850 kill mark Tuesday, finishing the contest with 859 kills on her career.

The Match
Cleveland State was able to get out to a quick 1-0 set lead after the first frame, but Northern Kentucky was able to even the contest at 1-1 following the second set. The Vikings rebounded with a hard-fought 25-22 victory in the third frame to take a 2-1 lead, but NKU bounced back with a quick fourth-set victory. After forcing the match to a fifth and deciding set, Northern Kentucky was able to capitalize on its momentum and pick up the 3-2 match victory over the Vikings.
