Vikings Drop Horizon League Opener At Youngstown State

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – In their first Horizon League contest of the 2013 season, the Cleveland State volleyball team fell at Youngstown State, 3-0. The Vikings now stand at 10-4 overall this season and 0-1 in league play, while the Penguins are 8-7 overall and 1-0 in the Horizon League.

Set scores were; 25-19, 25-20, 28-26.

Kerry Winchester led the Viking offense with seven kills, while Maggie Hannon and Kelly Kiger each posted six. Nikki Holmes had a team-high 11 digs, with Grace Kauth and Dayna Roberts each adding nine. Christina Toth and Kiger both posted a team-best three blocks on the night.

The Penguins were led offensively by the duo of Alexis Egler and Missy Hundelt who each posted 10 kills, while Erika West had a match-high 16 digs.

The Vikings will continue Horizon League play next weekend, traveling to Wright State (Friday, Oct. 4) and Oakland (Saturday, Oct. 5).
