Cross Country & Track and Field Announces 2020-21 Newcomers

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State cross country and track and field teams have announced four newcomers for the 2020-21 campaigns, as head cross country coach Jason Hudson and head track and field coach Amber Williams welcome Zoe Dellaserra (Green, Ohio), Quincy Powers (Akron, Ohio), Savannah Shaver (New London, Ohio), and Shannon Wargo (LaGrange, Ohio) to their respective programs.

Zoe Dellaserra | Sprints/Jumps | Green, Ohio
Dellaserra comes to Cleveland State following an excellent career at Green High School where she was a multi-event all-league honoree. As a sophomore and junior, she earned First Team All-Federal League accolades in the 100 and 200 Meter Dash, while also earning Honorable Mention All-League honors as part of the 4x400 Relay as a junior. Dellaserra was a two-time Regional qualifier, 200 Meter Dash District champion (2019) and a two-time Indoor State qualifier.

Track & Field Head Coach Amber Williams on Dellaserra: "Zoe gives us depth in the short sprint events and a body in the horizontal jumps that we didn't have before. She has had great success at the high school level, and I think she has the potential to make some noise at the conference level as a freshman. We are happy to have her join the team for the upcoming season!"

Quincy Powers | Cross Country/Distance | Akron, Ohio
Powers joins the Vikings after becoming a three-time state qualifier and helping St. Vincent St. Mary High School to an Ohio State Championship runner-up finish as a junior. During her time at SVSM Powers was part of three District and Regional Championship teams as a four-year letterwinner.

Cross Country Head Coach Jason Hudson on Powers: "Quincy comes to us from St. Vincent St. Mary's where she was a two-time state qualifier in cross country. She will develop into a very solid middle distance runner, and I'm excited to work with her because I believe she has a lot of untapped ability."

Savannah Shaver | Cross Country/Distance | New London, Ohio
Shaver comes to Cleveland State following a standout career at New London High School where she was a two-time Coaches Award recipient and 2019 MVP. Shaver currently holds the 800 Meter record (2:20) at New London, while she also posted top times in the 5K and Mile events throughout high school.

Cross Country Head Coach Jason Hudson on Shaver: "Savannah comes to us from a strong New London program where she qualified for the state meet three times in cross country and twice in track. She will add depth to our middle distance races from the 400 to the mile. She will add a key element to our distance medley relay and should also be a factor in the top-five of our cross country team. I'm excited to see how Savannah responds to training at a higher level, and I believe she will surprise some people."

Shannon Wargo | Distance | LaGrange, Ohio
Wargo comes to Cleveland State after beginning her collegiate career at Oberlin College where she was an All-NCAC honoree in multiple events, including capturing the NCAC indoor title in the mile run. In addition, Wargo was also named USTFCCCA All-Region in the indoor mile and outdoor 1500 events, and qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships in the 1500. During her time at Oberlin, Wargo helped the Yeowomen capture multiple NCAC indoor and outdoor championships.

Cross Country Head Coach Jason Hudson on Wargo: "Shannon is a Keystone High School graduate who finished fourth in the 1600m as a senior at the state meet. Shannon then started her collegiate career at Oberlin College, where she was an NCAA national qualifier in the 1500, a conference champion in the indoor mile and all-region in the mile and 1500. Shannon has the ability to score both indoors and outdoors in the mile and 1500, and will also add a critical leg to our distance medley relays that could challenge for a conference championship this year."
