ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Cleveland State track and field team had another successful outing on day two of the Horizon League Outdoor Track & Field Championship, with a pair of podium finishes and a pair of qualifying marks for Sunday's finals.
Entering the final day of competition, the Vikings stand in sixth place with 16 total points.
Cleveland State's best finish on the day came from Hannah Gaskins in the Heptathlon, as she improved on her standing from day one to finish second overall with 4285 points. On Saturday, Gaskins placed second in the javelin (29.25) and 800 Meter Run (2:34.92), while she finished eighth in the Long Jump (4.60).
Julianne Dorothal and Jessica White also competed in the Heptathlon for the Vikings, Dorothal finishing fifth overall with 3916 points and White placing 10th (2999).
The Vikings also earned a podium finish in the High Jump on Saturday, with Rachel Wenzel finishing sixth with a program record mark of 1.63.
Two Vikings were able to earn a spot in a Sunday final, with Chan'lier Myers advancing in the 100 Meter Dash and Anna Brandt qualifying for the 400 Meter Hurdles. Myers posted a time of 12.26 in Saturday's 100 Meter Dash prelim, advancing as one of the fastest times and marking a program record. Brandt earned an automatic qualifying position in the 400 Meter Hurdles after finishing second in her heat with a time of 1:03.48.
The Vikings also recorded four other program records throughout Saturday's prelims; Gaskins in the 100 Meter Hurdles (16.31), Myers in the 200 Meter Dash (25.40), Lauren Zawie in the 400 Meter Dash (1:00.00), and Deja Emmanus in the 800 Meter Run (2:24.22).
The 2018 Horizon League Outdoor Track & Field Championships will conclude tomorrow (Sunday, May 6), with field events beginning at 10:00 a.m. and running events starting at 12:00 p.m.
