YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Cleveland State began competition at the 2018 Horizon League Indoor Championship Saturday, posting a solid first day of events, including a strong showing in the Pentathlon.
Cleveland State had four competitors in the Pentathlon, including Hannah Gaskins who earned a podium finish after placing fifth with 3,107 points - a program record. Gaskins had her best finish in the high jump, as she finished tied for first with a jump of 1.67, marking a personal-best and school record. She also had a top-five finish in the 800 meter run, as she placed fourth with a time of 2:36.04.
Julianne Dorothal finished seventh in the Pentathlon for the Vikings, earning 2,951 total points. Dorothal won the shot put with a school record mark of 11.04, while she finished sixth in the high jump (1.52) and eighth in the 60 meter hurdles (9.86).
Jessica White and Rachel Wenzel also participated in the Pentathlon - White recording her best finish in the 800 meter run with a second place finish (2:31.48) and Wenzel placing fifth in the high jump (1.55) for her highest mark.
Wenzel also competed in the Long Jump Saturday, finishing 10th with a mark of 4.84.
Cleveland State's Anna Brandt qualified for the finals of the 800 Meter Run by virtue of having one of the fastest times out of the prelim heats, finishing with a prelim time of 2:16.12.
Jessica Finley was just shy of a podium finish in the 5000 Meter Run, finishing 10th overall with a school record time of 18:11.45.
The 2018 Horizon League Indoor Championship will conclude tomorrow (Sunday, February 25), with events beginning at 9:00 a.m.
