Vikings Have Strong Showing At YSU Icebreaker To Begin Indoor Season

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Cleveland State track and field team opened the 2017-18 indoor season Friday, competing in the YSU Icebreaker at Youngstown State University.

Cleveland State competed in three field events and five races – with the top finish coming from Rachel Wenzel in the high jump.

Wenzel, who competed in all three field events for the Vikings, placed sixth in the high jump with a mark of 1.55m, while she was also Cleveland State's top finisher in the long jump (17th – 4.71m).

Hannah Gaskins also represented the Vikings in all three field events, placing ninth in the high jump (1.55m), 22nd in the long jump (4.49m) and was the top Viking finisher in the shot put (38th – 8.10m).

On the track, Cleveland State had its best performance in the 1000 meter run, with Andrea Wardeiner placing ninth with a time of 3:33.79.

In the lone relay event of the day, the Cleveland State A team finished 12th with a time of 4:13.61, while the B team placed 14th (4:21.95).

The Vikings will continue their indoor schedule after the new year, competing in the Doug Raymond Invitational on Saturday, January 13 in Kent, Ohio.
