Track & Field Set To Open 2017-18 Campaign At YSU Icebreaker

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's track & Field team will begin the 2017-18 campaign this weekend, participating in the YSU Icebreaker on Friday, December 1. Friday's season-opening meet will take place at the Watson and Tressel Training Site on the Youngstown State University campus.

Cleveland State will be one of 15 teams competing, and one of just two Horizon League teams in action (Youngstown State).

Field events will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, December 1, while running events will start at 4:00 p.m. Only two races will have prelims (60m dash, 60m hurdles), with all other races being run as finals only.

The Vikings return eight letterwinners from last season's squad, including All-Horizon League honoree Alexandria Derkacs. This core group will be joined by 14 newcomers, and will be under the direction of second year head coach Madeleine Outman.

This will be Cleveland State's first of seven indoor meets this season – which will culminate in the Horizon League Championship February 24-25. After Friday's meet, the Vikings will be out of competition until the start of the new year, when they will prepare for the Doug Raymond Invitational at Kent State (January 13, 2018).
