YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Cleveland State track and field team wrapped up action at the 2017 Horizon League Track and Field Outdoor Championship Sunday afternoon, with the Vikings competing in three individual finals and two relay finals on the third day of the championship.
Cleveland State's best individual finish on the championship came from Alexandria Derkacs on the final day of action, as Derkacs crossed the finish line as the runner-up in the 400 Meter Hurdles. Derkacs, who ran a 1:05.33 in the prelims to earn her spot in today's final, posted a personal-best time of 1:03.43 in today's championship race.
For her second place finish in the 400 Meter Hurdles, Derkacs was named to the All-Horizon League Second Team.
Samantha Butterbaugh also earned a podium finish for the Vikings in the 1500 Meter Run, placing eighth in the two-heat, timed-final with a time of 4:54.65.
The final individual event for Cleveland State was the 5000 Meter Run, with Karen Barrientos marking the Vikings' best finish, crossing the finish line with a personal-best time of 17:59.27 to place 12th overall. Jessica Finley (22nd – 18:58.63) and Samantha Butterbaugh (23rd – 19:00.20) also competed for the Vikings in the 5000 Meter Run.
In the relay events, the Vikings finished seventh in the 4x100 Meter Relay and eighth in the 4x400 Meter Relay.
For the weekend, the Vikings finished with 15 team points in the 2017 Horizon League Track and Field Outdoor Championship.
