YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Cleveland State track and field team continued action at the 2017 Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championship Saturday, with Karen Barrientos placing in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase and Alexandria Derkacs advancing in the 400 Meter Hurdles.
The lone finals event for the Vikings on Saturday was the 3000 Meter Steeplechase, with Barrientos placing sixth with a time of 11:14.01. With her sixth place finish, Barrientos collected three points for Cleveland State and bettered her seed time by more than 18 seconds.
Cleveland State's other top performance on day two of the championship came from Derkacs in the 400 Meter Hurdles, as she earned an automatic qualifying spot into the finals with a prelim time of 1:05.33. Derkacs earned her automatic spot into the finals by finishing second in her prelim heat and will run in the finals of the 400 Meter Hurdles tomorrow (Sunday, May 7) at 12:40 p.m.
Andrea Wardeiner also competed in the 400 Meter Hurdles, placing 10th with a time of 1:16.36.
The Vikings were also represented in the 200 Meter Dash, 400 Meter Dash, and 800 Meter Run on the second day of the 2017 Horizon League Championship.
Action will conclude at the Horizon League Championship tomorrow (Sunday, May 7), with Cleveland State competing in the finals of the 1500 Meter Run, 400 Meter Hurdles, 4x100 Meter Relay and 4x400 Meter Relay.
