CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Cleveland State track and field team officially started its outdoor season this weekend, competing at the All-Ohio Championship which was held at the University of Cincinnati.
Cleveland State competed in a pair of sprint events, including Bridget Smik (5th – 13.35) and Deja Emmanus (7th – 14.29) recording top-seven finishes in the 100 Meter Dash. The Vikings also had two runners in the 200 Meter Dash, with Danielle Yasenchack recording a time of 27.26 (16th) and Smik posting a final time of 28.28 (17th).
The Vikings had a trio of runners in the 800 Meter Run, led by Deanna Calder who posted a ninth place finish with a time of 2:29.03. Olivia Hammons (15th – 2:32.32) and Andrea Wardeiner (16th – 2:51.74) also competed in the event.
In the 1500 Meter Run the Vikings were represented by three runners, as Jessica Finley (14th – 5:10.05), Hammons (17th – 5:23.19), and Wardeiner (18th – 6:19.08) all crossed the finish line.
The final individual event for Cleveland State was the 5000 Meter Run, with Karen Barrientos placing fourth in a time of 18:27.96 and Samantha Butterbaugh finishing sixth with a time of 19:27.15.
The Vikings also ran in a pair of relay events, placing seventh in the 4x100 Meter Relay with a time of 51.55 and fourth in the 4x400 Meter Relay with a time of 4:17.39.
The Vikings will have a week off from competition before returning to action at the Ashland Alumni Invitational on Friday, April 28 and Saturday, April 29.
