KENT, Ohio – The Cleveland State track and field team continued the 2017 season Saturday, competing at the Kent State Tuneup.
Cleveland State's best performances came in the 5000 Meter Run and the 1000 Meter Run, as Karen Barrientos (18:29.46) and Jessica Finley (3:22.68) finished sixth in both events, respectively. Andrea Wardeiner also participated in the 1000 for the Vikings, finishing 10th in a time of 3:30.99.
The Vikings also had a pair of top-10 finishes in the qualifying round of the 60 Meter Dash, with Alexandria Derkacs (8.61) finishing seventh and Bridget Smik placing ninth (8.62).
Cleveland State had just one competitor in the Mile Run, with Samantha Butterbaugh finishing 13th in a time of 5:14.08.
In the lone relay event of the meet, the 4x400, the Cleveland State 'A' team finished ninth with a time of 4:19.17. This relay team consisted of Derkacs, Smik, Danielle Yasenchack, and Olivia Hammons.
Up next for the Vikings will be the Horizon League Indoor Championships, which will take place Saturday, February 25 and Sunday, February 26 at Youngstown, Ohio.
