Women’s Track & Field Announces Roster For 2016-17 Season

CLEVELAND, Ohio – First-year Cleveland State women's track & field head coach Madeleine Outman has announced her roster for the upcoming indoor and outdoor track and field seasons, with 15 student-athletes set to compete for the Vikings during the 2016-17 season.

In addition to seven new track & field specific student-athletes, eight members from this year's cross country team will also be competing during the upcoming track & field season.

"All of these young women have worked very hard on the track and in the classroom, and embody the values of academic success, athletic achievement, and strong personal character – which are the cornerstones of our program," Outman said. "I am confident that they will all immediately contribute to the positive development of our program as we work to build the foundation of a successful track & field team here at Cleveland State."

Deanna Calder | Mid-Distance | Aurora, Ohio | Aurora High School
High School: Four-time Aurora High School Outstanding Distance Runner…Named Chagrin Valley Conference Track MVP as a senior after claiming titles in the 800M run and the 4x800 relay…Picked up First Team All-CVC honors as a senior and Honorable Mention All-CVC accolades as a junior…Set the Aurora High School 400M record with a time of 60.9 as a freshman.

Alexandria Derkacs | Sprints/Hurdles | Strongsville, Ohio | Strongsville High School
High School: Earned the Strongsville High School Dedication Award as a junior and the Strongsville High School Booster Award as a senior…Named All-Conference as a sophomore and junior as a member of the 4x200 relay…Picked up All-Conference accolades as a member of the 4x400 relay as a junior and senior…Part of the 4x400 relay that qualified for the OHSAA Division I State Track meet…Earned the Strongsville Academic Award and the NOC Scholar-Athlete Award every year of her prep career…Named a Track & Field Academic All-Ohioan.
College: Spent her freshman season at Notre Dame College…Earned Mountain East All-Conference honors in the 400M hurdles…Named to the Dean's List.

Deja Emmanus | Sprints/Mid-Distance | Cleveland, Ohio | John Hay High School
High School: Led John Hay High School to indoor and outdoor District Team titles all four years of her prep career…Named the Most Improved Runner during the indoor season as a senior.

Sherya Jackson | Sprints | Brooklyn, Ohio | Brooklyn High School
High School: Qualified for the District championship in the 100M and was a part of District championship qualifying 4x100 relay.

Savanna Songer | Sprints | Amherst, Ohio | Amherst Steele High School
High School: Three-year varsity letterwinner for track & field…Part of a 4x100 relay that qualified for Districts and Regionals as a sophomore…Member of the 4x100 relay that advanced to districts as a junior.

Jessica White | Multi-Events | Wadsworth, Ohio | Wadsworth High School
High School: Three-year letterwinner in cross country and track & field at Wadsworth High School…Led Wadsworth to Suburban League championships as a freshman and senior.
College: Attended Millersville University prior to Cleveland State where she was part of the cross country and track & field teams for the Marauders.

Danielle Yasenchack | Sprints | North Olmsted, Ohio | North Olmsted High School
High School: Four-year member of the track & field team…Set a North Olmsted record in the 400M dash as a senior…Also part of record-setting relay teams in the 4x100 and sprint medley.

Along the seven Viking newcomers, the following members of the cross country team will also participate during the track & field seasons:
