CLEVELAND, Ohio - Mark Barry, a four-time letterwinner at Penn State, has been named an assistant tennis coach at Cleveland State. Head coach Brian Etzkin made the announcement on Wednesday afternoon.

"I am extremely excited to have Mark on the coaching staff, and as a member of our program" head coach Etzkin said. "He is an eager, young coach who has an impressive playing resume. Mark is someone that our team can look up to and whose experience will be beneficial to the program."

Barry lettered from 2002-06 at Penn State and served as team captain as a junior and senior. During his final three years, he played number one singles and number two doubles for the Nittany Lions. As a freshman, Barry split his time between number one and two singles and played number three doubles.

As a student-athlete at Penn State, Barry enjoyed a memorable career as he was a two-time all-league selection, including a unanimous pick as a senior. In addition, he was a finalist of the Big 10 singles tournament and the ITA Northeast Regional Championships as a junior when he finished the year ranked 76th in the country.

In addition, Barry led the Nittany Lions to the finals of the 2004 and 2005 ECAS regional tournament and the 2006 NCAA Championships. He earned a national ranking of 43rd as a senior when he finished with a 16-7 record.

Barry compiled a career mark of 119-58 at PSU. He was 58-27 in singles and 61-31 in doubles matches.
