PEORIA, Ill. - Senior Sarah Galon and sophomore Kristin Chamberlain went 2-0 in singles play and four different Vikings split for the day on Saturday (Sept. 9) at the Bradley Invitational in Peoria, Ill. CSU also swept three doubles matches over host school Bradley.

Galon defeated her first opponent of the day, Bradley's Elise Montrose, 6-2, 6-4, and followed that performance up by taking a three-match thriller, 6-2, 5-7, 6-3, in her second match of the day. Chamberlain, playing No. 6 singles, won two matches over UW-Milwaukee foes. She opened with a dominant 6-0, 6-4 win over UWM's Ashley Sconeman and then defeated the Panthers' Traci Litscher, 7-5, 1-6 (12-10).

"We were happy to have our players winning at the top and bottom of the lineup," assistant coach David Howell said. "It shows that we will have people winning all over the lineup this season." Howell mentored the women's team this weekend because head coach Brian Etzkin is in New York with the men's team at the St. Bonaventure Fall Classic.

Freshman Denisa Muntean split her two matches at No. 2 singles senior Morgan Ungerott had a similar fortune. Ungerott played at No. 3 singles in the second match of the day against UW-Milwaukee because junior Lindsay Sellers, the team's No. 3 player this weekend, was forced to retire for the weekend with an injury.

Freshman Charlotte Gibbons won her Viking debut, 6-4, 6-1, over Tracey Forkin before dropping her second match of the day, 7-5, 6-4. Junior Christine Volgelgesang also split her two singles matches, playing at No. 6 in the first round and in the fifth spot for the second match.

Galon and Ungerott, 22-8 as a doubles combo a year ago, won their match at No. 1 doubles, 8-5, over Bradley's top duo of Montrose and Jessica Buterbaugh. Chamberlain and Gibbons fell, 8-3, to Bradley's Braun and Chan and Sellers and Muntean also lost, 8-4, to Reginald and Krubeck.

"I thought our doubles play was strong," Howell said. "Sarah and Morgan beat a very good team."

The women take on Western Illinois in doubles action on Sunday and UW-Milwaukee in singles play later in the day.
