CLEVELAND, Ohio - Both Cleveland State tennis programs received national attention for their academic success on Monday when the International Tennis Association announced its All-Academic Teams and Scholar-Athletes. The women's team received All-Academic Team honors, while three players from both squads garnered individual attention.

Junior Morgan Ungerott and sophomores Christine Vogelgesang and Lindsay Sellers were each named women's Division I Scholar Athletes. Earlier this spring, Ungerott and Vogelgesang were each named to the Horizon League All-Academic Team.

On the men's side, junior Dan Singer and freshmen Rob West and Stephen Wipprecht were named ITA Scholar-Athletes, which goes to any student-athlete carrying a 3.50 GPA and has been enrolled at his present school for at least two semesters.

"I am very proud of the athletes who received this award," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "They work very hard on the court and continue their effort in the classroom. This also puts our women's team in the top 25 percent in the nation academically. "This is a true testament to the team's work ethic and character."

This marks the second straight year the women's team, which placed fifth at the Horizon League Championship last spring, has received team honors from the ITA. The ITA honored 92 women's Division I teams nationwide that had a combined 3.20 grade point average. Five of the Vikings' seven players posted at least a 3.0 grade point average last year.
