CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Ten Viking student-athletes, representing five of the six spring sports sponsored by Cleveland State, have been named to the various 2006 Horizon League Spring All-Academic teams, the league office announced on Thursday morning.

The list of honorees include softball players Grace Luginbuhl (Lima, OH/Bath), Sarah Milosek (Brighton, MI), Michele Penney (Ravenna, OH/Crestwood) and J.J. Thornberry (New Bloomington, OH/Elgin), women's tennis standouts Morgan Ungerott (Cuyahoga Falls, OH) and Christine Vogelgesang (Hartville, OH/North Canton Hoover), baseball regulars Theo Hudson (Cleveland, OH/John Marshall) and John Westra (Sturgis, MI), Ben Grandy (Southgate, MI/Gabriel Richard) from men's golf and women's golfer Kristen Obush (Indiana, PA).

The 10 honorees are the most by a Horizon League school in the six spring sports that CSU fields a team in (baseball, softball, men's and women's golf and tennis). Butler and Youngstown State had eight selections each while Detroit had seven, Wright State six, UW-Green Bay four, Loyola and UIC had three and UW-Milwaukee had one.

This is the third straight year that Luginbuhl, Thornberry and Obush were named to the squad while Grandy is a repeat selection.

The honors cap an award-filled year for the 10 recipients.

Luginbuhl previously was named the Horizon League Pitcher of the Year for the second straight season, was tabbed as only the second first team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America choice in school history and earned a spot on the all-region team.

Thornberry, who received the school's President's Award as the graduating senior with the top GPA, was a second-team all-league and third team Academic All-America pick while Penney earned first team all-league and second team all-region kudos.

Obush, the 2005 Horizon League Women's Golfer of the Year, earned first team all-league honors for the fourth straight year while Ungerott and Westra earned second team all-league and all-newcomer honors, respectively.

To be eligible for the academic all-league squad, a student-athlete must be in their second full year at a school, have a GPA of 3.25 or better and be a starter or important reserve on the team.
