CLEVELAND, Ohio - Alexandra Bush, who is the top tennis player in West Virginia, has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Cleveland State beginning with the 2010-11 academic year.

Head coach Brian Etzkin made the announcement on Monday (April 19) afternoon.

"I am very excited about the addition of Alex to our team," Etzkin said. "She has a great all-court game featuring two-handed groundies off both sides. I see definite room for improvement at the college level which is great since Alex is a proven winner already.

"Alex has excellent grades, has a positive team-oriented attitude and has picked up numerous sportsmanship awards, including two of them at the Midwest Closed. I can't wait to start working with her and have her help the team reach the goals we have."

The top high school player coming out of West Virginia, Bush has been ranked as high at No. 1 in the Midwest and nationally in singles and No. 2 nationally in doubles during her junior career by the United States Tennis Association. She is a four-star recruit by tennisrecruiting.net, while working with her private coach John Barr.

Bush played her high school tennis at Parkersburg H.S. under coach Pam Reeves, compiling a 95-7 record through her first three seasons and became the first player in school history to reach 100 career wins earlier this season.

As a sophomore, she led her team to the state title, while also claiming the West Virginia singles state title. She has advanced to the semifinals twice during her career at the state tournament.

The CSU women's tennis team recently completed one of the best regular seasons in school history, going 15-11 overall and finishing a program best second place in the Horizon League at 7-1.

The No. 2 seeded Vikings will open play in the Horizon League Championship this weekend with a semifinal match at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday (April 24) in Indianapolis, Ind. The Vikings will play the winner of Friday's first round contest between No. 3 Detroit and No. 6 Green Bay.
