Haley and Bjerrehus named Tennis Players of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS - Cleveland State junior John Haley and sophomore Catrine Bjerrehus have been named Horizon League Tennis Players of the Week for the period of April 5-11.

Haley, a native of San Antonio, Texas, went 5-0 over the weekend. He posted wins at No. 6 singles against Horizon League foes Wright State (6-2, 6-0) and Butler (6-3, 6-4), and No. 5 singles versus Case Western (6-3, 6-2).

Haley also paired with Rob Fox to register 9-7 (WSU) and 8-4 (BU) doubles wins. The Vikings are 16-6 overall and have clinched the No. 1 seed in the Horizon League Championship with a 6-0 league mark and one contest remaining.

Bjerrehus, a native of Aarhaus, Denmark, helped the Vikings improve to 6-1 in the Horizon League over the weekend with four No. 1 wins. She defeated Wright State (7-6, 6-1) on Saturday and Butler (7-5, 6-1) on Sunday. Bjerrehus also teamed with Charlotte Gibbons to pick up 8-2 (WSU) and 8-3 (BU) wins at the No. 1 doubles slot.

Both teams conclude the regular season this weekend. The women will play their final match on Saturday (April 17) at 1:30 p.m. at Detroit with the winner claiming the No. 2 seed in the Horizon League Championship and a berth in the semifinals.

The men's team will play at Detroit on Saturday (April 17) at 10:00 a.m. and host Buffalo at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday (April 18).
