CLEVELAND, Ohio - Former Cleveland State tennis standout Jay Tee is returning to his alma mater as an assistant tennis coach with the men's and women's programs.

Head coach Brian Etzkin made the announcement early last week.

"I am very excited to have Jay return to the Cleveland State tennis program," Etzkin said. "Jay was an intregral part of building a championship team here. He was here when we were building the program and when he left, we were contenders in the Horizon League.

"Now, he gets to join both the men's and women's teams while we are the strongest we have ever been. He is proud to be back and I am excited to have him back in the program. The teams will benefit from his coaching, motivational skills and passion for CSU and college tennis."

A member of the CSU men's tennis team from 2002-06, Tee compiled more than 40 wins in singles, playing mostly at the No. 2 position and is ranked sixth on the all-time singles wins list at CSU.

Tee also excelled in doubles play, amassing a 58-46 mark, playing most of his matches at No. 1 doubles.

The 2002-03 Horizon League Newcomer of the Year, Tee was a four-time selection to the second team All-Horizon League team (2003-06).

He also served as the President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as a senior.

A 2006 graduate of CSU with a degree in history, Tee served as an Assistant Tennis Professional at Lake Toxaway Country Club in North Carolina from 2006-07. From 2007-09, he was the Director of Junior Development at the Asheville Racquet and Fitness Club.

"Jay had expressed his desire to become a college coach over the past few years," Etzkin said. "He left Cleveland to gain some experience and has returned with some very impressive professional and personal maturity."
