CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Viking women came up just short Sunday afternoon, falling in a familiar 4-3 fashion to Butler at the Malaga Tennis Center.

CSU dropped the doubles point with two close losses at the first two spots. Charlotte Gibbons and Catrine Bjerrehus kept it close at No. 1, extending the match into a tiebreaker before eventually losing 9-8(3),

That point would prove to be the difference maker in the match, as the Vikings and the Bulldogs split the singles matches down the middle, coming away with three points each. Bjerrehus finished a strong two-set match at No. 1, winning 7-5, 7-5, and Sanda Bjelan and Myra Pepino rounded out the lineup with two wins at No. 5 and 6 to put CSU on the board.

"We were presented with multiple opportunities to win today and we weren't quite able to convert," said head coach Brian Etzkin. "We had a chance to do some damage but we came out a little too tentative. Both Detroit and now Butler have beaten us 4-3 by winning the doubles point, so our goal is to improve by that one point in these next few weeks."

Cleveland State holds a 14-10 overall record, including a 4-3 mark in the Horizon League. Next up for the women's team is Wright State, its final conference opponent in the regular season, which is scheduled to come to town on Saturday, April 18.
