CHICAGO - The Cleveland State women's tennis team fell at Illinois-Chicago, 6-1, in MCC action on Saturday. With the loss the Vikings are now 1-6 overall this spring, including an 0-3 mark in MCC play.
Once again, freshman Irina Strembitsky (Eastlake, Ohio/Mayfield) was unbeatable. At No. 1 singles she defeated UIC's Jacki Farr, 6-1, 6-3, then teamed with fellow freshman Diana Serafini (New Kensington, Pa./Valley) to post a 9-8 (5) victory at No. 1 doubles. With the pair of wins, Strembitsky improved to a perfect 10-0 (5-0 in singles, 5-0 in doubles) since joining the squad this spring.
Unfortunately, those would be the only victories for CSU on the day. Senior Brandy Cera (Lorain, Ohio/Admiral King) and junior Fatima Martin (Brown Deer, Wis./Brown Deer) fell just short at No. 2 doubles, dropping a 9-8 (6) decision.
The Vikings are in action again this Thursday (Apr. 12) when they host Walsh University at 2:00 p.m. at the Malaga Tennis Center.
