CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland State put up a much better fight against defending Horizon League champion UIC than in years past, but still dropped a 5-2 decision to the Flames on Friday at River Oaks Racquet Club. It was the first time CSU has scored a point in a dual match against UIC in five years under head coach Brian Etzkin.

Both of the Vikings' points came from juniors, as Jenn Myers and Lindsay Sellers won at Nos. 4 and 5 singles, respectively. Myers routed Christina Oum 6-0, 6-2 early enough for the match to still be competitive, and Sellers downed Ulrikke von Ubisch in three sets, 7-5, 5-7, 10-2.

"Our juniors really stepped up tonight," Etzkin said. "This performance against UIC helps us establish ourselves as contenders in the conference.

"I'm very proud of the way we played tonight."

The Flames, who have won 10 consecutive league titles, won the doubles point and the first three singles points to go along with a quick win by Jenna Reisch at No. 6 singles to clinch the match.

The Vikings host Wright State on Saturday at River Oaks at 4:00 p.m.
