ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Cleveland State women's tennis team won its ninth match of the season this afternoon, defeating Oakland, 6-1, in Detroit, Mich. The nine wins this season are the most by a women's team at Cleveland State since the 1983-84 team won 10.

The Vikings (9-12) opened things up with a win in doubles, as Sarah Galon and Morgan Ungerott won their eighth straight match at No. 1, defeating Lisa Pellafone and Angela Trecola, 8-3. At the third doubles spot, Rebekah Bicksler and Amanda Cerny defeated Lauren Sanchez-Murphy and Emily Kahanek, 8-0, to clinch the point.

"Doubles points haven't been easy to come by for us this year," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "After winning there today, we were really fired up going into the singles matches. The singles matches were competitive early, and it was good to see that we started to separate ourselves from them a little bit."

Cleveland State then powered through the singles lineup, with Galon taking a 6-3, 6-3 win over Brittany Maxey. Paulina Reyes defeated Pellafone, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 2, while Ungerott picked up a 6-4, 6-4 win over Trecola at No. 3. Bicksler defeated Jessica Erickson at the fourth slot, 6-2, 6-2, with Marcella Capozziello finishing out the scoring for the Vikings, beating Stephanie Potiris, 6-3, 6-2.

"We're really starting to peak at the right moment," Etzkin said. "We're getting better and better as the weeks go by. Now we're beating teams that have traditionally beaten us, and that's what we have to do to get this program moving in the right direction."

The Vikings return to the courts next weekend with a pair of matches in Indianapolis, Ind. On Saturday (March 3), the Vikings will face Southern Indiana before taking on Butler with the men's team a day later.
