March 25, 2006

Detroit, MI-The Cleveland State women's team snagged an important 5-2 victory over conference foe Detroit Saturday evening, improving to 13-8 on the season.

Jenn Myers and Christine Vogelgesang came out firing at No. 3 doubles, downing Amy Inman and Stephanie Hill 8-4 for the first doubles win. Despite an 8-4 loss at No. 2 doubles, the No. 1 duo of Sarah Galon and Morgan Ungerott pulled through and secured the doubles point with an 8-5 win over Annie Moore and Kelly Davis.

No. 4 Ungerott kept the momentum going in singles action, downing Moore 6-3, 6-2 to put the Vikings up 2-0. Galon then fell to Moore, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, but Myers answered back, edging out Aneta Maricevic 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. Myers is 19-8 on the season. With a 3-1 lead in hand, No. 3 Sellers clinched the winning point for the day, defeating Inman 6-0, 7-5. No. 5 Kristin Chamberlain added one more point for good measure with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) win over Davis.

"Today was a total team effort," said coach Brian Etzkin. "Everyone had a part of a point. We beat Detroit 4-3 the last three times out and I know everyone was nervous going into today's match."

"I was happy with the way I played," said Sellers. "I feel like I'm getting better. I'm being more consistent and coming into the net more. I'm just being more aggressive."

The women will continue conference play on Apr. 1-2 when they travel to Wright State and Butler.
