WESTLAKE, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's tennis team split a pair of matches on Sunday, falling at Akron, 7-0, in the morning before returning home to defeat Oaklan, 6-1, in an evening match.
The split moves CSU to 4-8 this season.
"This was kind of a weird day for us with two matches and one being at home and one on the road," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "But I thought we handled it well and gave some good performances. We played another nationally ranked team in Akron and will be able to take some good things from that match moving forward.
"We were then able to come back home and got a really good test from Oakland who came to play today. There was some good action on all the courts and it was also nice to get everybody in the mix today since we had two matches."
Freshmen Alex Bush and Alex Power were the standouts against Akron, earning an 8-7 (5) win at No. 2 doubles.
"They played a great doubles match today and were definitely the standouts this morning," Etzkin said. "They have been playing some great tennis since we paired them together in doubles and do a really nice job of complimenting each other on the court."
The Vikings won all three doubles matches against Oakland, while also winning the top five singles spots.
CSU will be out of action until March 14 when the Vikings begin their spring training trip with a 2:00 p.m. match at Louisiana Lafayette.
