DAYTON, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's tennis team dropped a pair of matches in Dayton, Ohio, this weekend, falling to Dayton on Friday (March 5) by a 6-1 score and to UIC by a 7-0 count on Saturday (March 6). The Vikings fall to 4-9 on the year with the two losses.

On Friday against the Flyers, senior Paulina Reyes picked up the lone win for the Vikings, defeating Kate Donovan, 6-2, 6-4. The Vikings lost the other five singles matches, with Marcella Capozziello coming closest to adding a win, dropping her first set in a tiebreaker before falling in the second.

The Vikings resumed Horizon League play on Saturday against UIC, and the reigning league champions took a 7-0 win from Cleveland State. All six singles matches were swept in straight sets.

"It's hard to lose a conference match, but we're still taking steps on the right path," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "It's going to take time. We've got a good test tomorrow, and, while it's not going to be easy, it is a winnable match. If we can get that match, this will be a successful weekend."

Cleveland State will resume play on Sunday with another league match on Sunday against Wright State. The Vikings and Raiders will tangle at 11 a.m.
