Cleveland, Ohio- The Cleveland State men's and women's tennis teams were all business this afternoon, downing Chicago State 5-2 and 6-1, respectively.
Despite some unexpected changes to the Chicago State lineup, CSU's men's team was able to find it's rhythm at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. The No. 1 unit of Olivier Dhaine and Jay Tee defeated Prakoso and Prabowo Imanuel 8-5. Rob West and Dan Singer lead the way at No. 2 doubles, edging out Dejan Avramovic and Abram Mamahit 8-6.
"This was a really good win for us," said coach Brian Etzkin. "The Imanuel brothers had been out for awhile so it was a surprise to see that they were both back today. We all had to re-evaluate who we were playing."
In singles action the Vikings won four of their six matches. Prabowo Imanuel fell to Dhaine 6-3, 7-5 at No. 1 singles. Dhaine, who is on a three-match winning streak, is now 6-1 for the year.
Brad Groleski, who spent the fall out with a broken wrist, claimed his second win of the spring over Mamahit at No. 4 singles.
"Groleski got the clinching point for us today and he's still not at 100 percent," said Etzkin. "It was great to see him come back and win a three set match."
No. 5 Dan Singer and No. 6 Steven Wipprecht outplayed Chicago State 6-2, 6-4 and 6-0, 4-6, 10-8, respectively. The men's team is on a two-match winning streak.
The CSU women's team also found its stride today, taking advantage of a depleted Chicago State lineup.
Sarah Galon and Morgan Ungerott easily downed Chicago State 8-1 at No. 1 doubles for their third straight win of the spring. The duo is 11-5 for the year. At No. 2 doubles Jenn Myers and Christine Vogelgesang shut out Samantha Islas and Erica Watkins 8-0, improving to 7-5 for the year.
The Vikings continued to play well in singles action, winning five of their six singles matches in two sets. No. 4 Ungerott and No. 5 Kristin Chamberlain shut out Chicago State 6-0, 6-0.
"Today was really just a way for us to get ready for tomorrow when we play Youngstown," said Etzkin. "Galon and Myers were really the only ones who were pushed during the match. Everyone else came out and got the early leads and just kept it up till the end."
The women are back in action tomorrow when they host conference foe Youngstown at 4:30p.m.
