KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Alex Bush and Maria Lazaris picked up singles wins, but Cleveland State came out on the short end of a 5-2 setback at Western Michigan on Saturday evening at the West Hills Athletic Club.
The loss drops the Vikings to 3-7 this year.
"We are in a stretch where we are playing a lot of quality teams and I keep seeing improvement from us every time we take the court," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "Now, we have to learn how to close out close points, sets and matches. We had a few opportunities today, but just couldn't get the key points."
Mengdi Liu and Alex Bush earned an 8-4 win at No. 2 singles to start the evening, but the Broncos won the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 singles.
Bush came out in singles and earned a 6-2, 7-6 win at No. 5, while Lazaris won at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 2-6, 6-2.
CSU is out of action until Sunday (March 6) when the Vikings play two matches. The day begins with a 10:00 a.m. match at Akron before CSU returns home to host Oakland at 5:00 p.m. at Paramount Tennis Club in Westlake.
