Vikings Gather Sweep Of Chicago State

CLEVELAND - The Cleveland State men's and women's tennis teams each picked up their second straight win on Saturday, defeating Chicago State at the River Oaks Racquet Club in Rocky River, Ohio. The men gathered a 6-1 win, while the women edged out a 4-3 win to claim their third win of the season.

For the men, the Vikings got wins at three of the four singles matches that were played, as Eric Winn, Jay Tee and Dan Singer each played their way to a victory. Winn needed three sets to defeat Danai Avramovic, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 1 singles, while Tee also rallied from a first set loss to defeat Amit Wadhwani, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2. Singer scored an easy win at No. 4 singles, winning 6-0, 6-0. Paul Haley and Jordan Reynolds each claimed a win by default.

The Vikings also scored the doubles point, as Tee and Winn combined to defeat Avramovic and Wadhwani, 8-4. Haley and Brett Aronson capped off the point, winning at No. 2 doubles, 8-1.

The women's match was much tighter, as it was a win by Marcella Capozziello at No. 5 singles that finalized the win. Capozziello battled back in the third set, winning 7-5, 6-7(2), 7-6(1). Sarah Galon claimed a 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 win over Edyta Urban at No. 1, with Amanda Cerny winning at No. 6 singles by default. The clinching fourth point came in doubles, as Galon and Morgan Ungerott won, 8-2, over Urban and Robbie Barnett, while the No. 3 doubles team of Cerny and Rebekah Bicksler won by default.

The Vikings are in action again today, as the men head to St. Francis in Loretto, Pa., while the women take on Ohio State in Columbus.
