WESTLAKE, Ohio - Cleveland State improved to 3-3 this spring with a 6-1 victory over Dayton on Sunday afternoon at the Paramount Tennis Club.
"This was a great team win with everyone contributing," assistant coach Jay Tee said. "We executed very well and closed out all the tiebreakers and close sets and those are the things you have to do in order to be successful."
The Vikings won all three doubles matches to take a quick 1-0 lead.
"I thought all three doubles teams played very well today and that allowed us to carry over some momentum to singles," Tee said.
Catrine Bjerrehus and Alex Bush teamed for an 8-4 win at the top doubles spot, while Kara Sherwood and Alex Power breezed to an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles and Maria Lazaris and Nicole Janek won at No. 3 doubles, 8-5.
Bjerrehus (No. 1), Power (No. 3), Bush (No. 4) and Janek (No. 5) earned straight set wins in singles play, while Lazaris (No. 6) won a three setter.
"We were very sharp all across the board today," Tee said.
The Vikings are back in action next Saturday (Feb. 19) when CSU plays at Michigan State at 12:00 p.m.
