WARSAW, Ind. - Just seven matches into the 2003-04 season, the Cleveland State women's tennis team has already equaled the win total of the previous year, posting their second win with a Saturday evening win over IPFW. The win also evened the season series with IPFW after the Mastodons took a 4-3 decision on October 19. The Vikings are now 2-5 after going 2-24 a year ago.

"A year ago at this time, we were still looking for our first win," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "We're definitely getting better. This wasn't really about revenge against IPFW, it was about getting past them and putting them behind us and looking forward to the rest of the season."

The win over IPFW comes a day after the Vikings dropped a 6-0 decision to Eastern Illinois. On Friday, the Panthers swept the singles matches in straight sets. No doubles matches were played.

The Vikings rebounded to get the win over IPFW on Saturday. Sarah Galon and Morgan Ungerott led the way with a pair of wins. The duo combined to pick up a win at No. 1 doubles, defeating Jennifer Pape and Jill Carie, 8-0, before each winning their singles match. Galon defeated Carie at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-2, while Ungerott picked up a win over Beth Miller, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 2 singles.

Cleveland State picked up the doubles point as Rebekah Bicksler and Amanda Cerny combined to pick up a 9-8(1) win over Lisa Bartelheim and Michelle Humphrey at No. 3 doubles.

Paulina Reyes and Marcella Capozziello wrapped up the match with wins, as Reyes defeated Jessica Vervynckt, 6-4, 6-7(6), (10-8), at No. 4 singles, while Capozziello picked up a win over Jennifer Pape, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 5 singles.

The Vikings will return to action on Sat., Feb. 21, with a 6 p.m. match against Chicago State at the River Oaks Racquet Club in Rocky River, Ohio.
