Cleveland State Women’s Tennis Travels To YSU With #HLTennis Regular Season Championship Up For Grabs

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team will close out the regular season on the road this weekend, traveling to Youngstown State for a 1:00 p.m. match on Saturday, April 23.

Last Time Out…
The Vikings remained perfect in Horizon League play with a pair of 7-0 wins against Milwaukee and UIC. Against the Panthers, the Vikings picked up the early doubles point and swept all six singles matches, while the match against the Flames was considered a forfeit win.  

Saturday's Undefeated Showdown Against YSU
Saturday's regular season finale features the two remaining undefeated teams in Horizon League play, as both Cleveland State and Youngstown State enter the weekend with a 5-0 mark in #HLTennis matches this year. The winner of Saturday's contest will capture the Horizon League Regular Season title while also claiming the No. 1 seed in the upcoming league tournament. 

Cleveland State Chasing First Perfect #HLTennis Season 
A win on Saturday would give the Vikings their first undefeated season in Horizon League regular season matches, while it would also give Cleveland State its fifth #HLTennis Regular Season crown.  

Trio Remains Undefeated In #HLTennis Singles Play
The Cleveland State trio of Klara Mrcela, Tereze Vevere and Bethany Yauch enters the weekend with perfect 4-0 records in Horizon League singles matches so far this spring. For her career, Mrcela stands at 17-8 against league opponents in regular season matches, while Yauch owns an 11-5 career record and Vevere is playing in her first season of Horizon League action.  

…Yauch On CSU's Single-Season Wins List
After picking up a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Milwaukee last time out, Bethany Yauch is now tied for 10th place on the CSU Single-Season Wins List with 22 victories so far this season. This is Yauch's first 20-win campaign of her collegiate career, with her 22 wins pacing all Vikings this season.  

Vikings With The Doubles Point
So far this season, Cleveland State has picked up the early doubles point in all four Horizon League matches. Cleveland State's No. 2 doubles team of Selma Tounsi and Bethany Yauch owns a team-best 13-9 record this season, including a 3-1 mark against league opponents, while Klara Mrcela/Sima Heren and Oihane Vicario/Tereze Vevere own matching 2-0 marks at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, respectively.  

2022 #HLTennis Tournament
Regardless of Saturday's outcome, the Vikings will be a top-two seed in the upcoming Horizon League Tournament, and will receive a bye into the semifinals. This year's #HLTennis Tournament will take place in Ann Arbor, Mich. with first round matches on Friday, April 29, semifinals on Saturday, April 30 and the championship match slated for Sunday, May 1.
