Vikings Host IUPUI & UIC To Wrap Up #HLWTEN Regular Season Play

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team will return to the friendly confines of the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion to close out regular season play this weekend, hosting IUPUI (Friday, April 19) and UIC (Saturday, April 20) with a chance to clinch the 2019 Horizon League Regular Season Championship.

Last Time Out…
Cleveland State extended its win streak to nine straight matches last week, posting a 4-3 victory at Northern Kentucky and a 6-1 win at Wright State. The nine consecutive wins marks a program-best for the Vikings, as they enter the weekend with a 14-7 overall record.

Vikings In Horizon League Play
The Vikings remained perfect in Horizon League play following the two wins at NKU and WSU last weekend, improving to 7-0 in #HLWTEN action this season. This marks the first time that the Vikings have won seven straight matches to begin league play, while they are just one win shy of tying the program record for league wins in a season (8). Cleveland State is one of two league teams to be undefeated heading into the final week of #HLWTEN play (UIC), and will have a chance to capture its fourth Regular Season title this weekend.

…Vikings In The MMTP
Cleveland State will be playing in the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion for the final time this season, a place where the Vikings own a perfect 8-0 mark this year. Four of Cleveland State's eight home wins have come as 7-0 sweeps so far this year, while CSU is 31-8 all-time when playing in the MMTP.

Cleveland State Sweeps #HLWTEN Weekly Awards
Earlier this week the Vikings swept the weekly Horizon League awards, as Isabella Spindler was named the Singles Player of the Week and Siân Payne and Gaby Schoenberg were named the Doubles Team of the Week. This marked the second time this season that the Vikings have swept the weekly honors, while it also gave them seven total accolades for the year.

Avram Perfect In League Play
Entering the weekend, Kateryna Avram owns a perfect 7-0 singles record against Horizon League opponents this season, standing as one of just four league players to be undefeated through four weeks of #HLWTEN play. Overall, Avram owns a team-best 24-8 singles record this year, a mark that is tied for fifth on the CSU Single-Season Wins List.

Vikings Strong In Doubles Play
Entering the weekend, the Vikings have picked up the early doubles point in nine straight matches, and have gotten off to the early 1-0 lead in all 14 of their wins so far this season. During dual match play only, Kateryna Avram and Lara Prosenjak have posted a team-best seven wins, while Gaby Schoenberg/ Siân Payne and Avram/Klara Mrcela have recorded six wins this spring.

…Payne & Schoenberg In #HLWTEN Doubles Play
Entering the final week of regular season play, the Cleveland State duo of Siân Payne and Gaby Schoenberg own a perfect 6-0 mark in Horizon League play, appearing at No. 3 doubles for the Vikings. Payne and Schoenberg are now the only duo to play five or more #HLWTEN matches and own a perfect record this season.

Spindler On CSU Singles Wins List
Following a pair of wins at No. 1 singles last weekend, senior Isabella Spindler now has 58 career wins and ranks 13th on the CSU Singles Wins List. Spindler, who stands at 14-13 overall this year, owns a 6-1 mark against league opponents playing at the No. 1 singles spot, and is just one win shy of moving into a tie for 12th place on the list.

…And On CSU Doubles Wins List
Isabella Spindler also moved up the CSU Doubles Wins List after picking up a win at the top spot at Northern Kentucky last weekend, and currently ranks fifth with 64 career doubles wins. Spindler, who became just the ninth Viking to reach 60 career doubles wins earlier this year, needs one more victory to move into fourth place on the list.

Scouting The Jaguars
IUPUI enters Friday's match standing at 6-14 on the year, and 2-5 in league play. IUPUI's two wins have come over Detroit Mercy (4-3) and Green Bay (4-3), while the Jaguars have won just one of their last five matches.

This will be the fifth meeting between the two teams, with Cleveland State owning a 3-2 lead in the all-time series.

Scouting The Flames
UIC enters the weekend with an overall record of 17-4 this season, including a 7-0 mark against league opponents. The Flames are currently on a 15-match win streak, and are tied for first place in the league standings with the Vikings.

This will be the 22nd meeting between the two teams over the last 17 seasons, with UIC owning a 17-4 advantage in the all-time series.
