Women’s Tennis Looks To Continue Win Streak At NKU & WSU

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team will hit the road for the final time during regular season play this weekend, traveling to Northern Kentucky and Wright State for a pair of Horizon League matches.

Last Time Out…
Cleveland State extended its win streak to seven straight matches last week, picking up a 6-1 victory over Dayton in a non-league matchup and a pair of Horizon League wins over Oakland (6-1) and Detroit Mercy (5-2).

…Vikings In Horizon League Play
With the two wins over Oakland and Detroit Mercy last weekend, the Vikings improved to 5-0 in #HLWTEN play this season, marking the third time over the last four years that they have posted a perfect 5-0 mark to begin league play. Cleveland State is one of two league teams to be undefeated heading into the fourth week of #HLWTEN action (UIC), and owns the second longest active win streak among league teams.

Prosenjak Earns #HLWTEN Weekly Honors
Earlier this week, freshman Lara Prosenjak was named the Horizon League Singles Player of the Week, becoming the second Viking to earn the honor this season. Prosenjak went 3-0 last week, including a pair of straight-set wins at No. 3 singles against Oakland and Detroit Mercy, extending her individual win streak to seven straight matches.

…Prosenjak & Avram Perfect In League Play
Entering the weekend, Lara Prosenjak and Kateryna Avram own perfect 5-0 singles records against Horizon League opponents this season, standing as two of just six league players to be undefeated through three weeks of #HLWTEN play. Prosenjak, who has played the entire league schedule at the No. 3 spot, is the only freshman to be undefeated in league play.

Vikings Strong In Doubles Play
Entering the weekend, the Vikings have picked up the early doubles point in seven straight matches, and have gotten off to the early 1-0 lead in all 12 of their wins so far this season. During dual match play only, Kateryna Avram has teamed up with Klara Mrcela and Lara Prosenjak to post a team-high six doubles wins with both partners, while Siân Payne and Gaby Schoenberg own a perfect 4-0 mark against league opponents.

Spindler On CSU Singles Wins List
After picking up a win at the top of the singles lineup against Oakland last weekend, senior Isabella Spindler gained sole possession of 13th place on the CSU Singles Wins List, and enters the weekend with 56 career wins. Spindler, who stands at 12-13 overall this year, owns a 4-1 mark against league opponents playing at the No. 1 singles spot.

…And On CSU Doubles Wins List
Isabella Spindler also moved up the CSU Doubles Wins List after picking up a win at the top spot against Oakland last weekend, and is currently tied for fifth with 63 career doubles wins. Spindler, who became just the ninth Viking to reach 60 career doubles wins earlier this year, needs two more victories to move into fourth place on the list.

Scouting The Norse
Northern Kentucky enters the weekend with a 6-9 overall record and a 2-3 mark against Horizon League teams, and will face Youngstown State prior to Saturday's match against the Vikings. NKU, who was picked to finish seventh in the preseason poll, notched its two league wins against Green Bay (6-1) and IUPUI (5-2).

This will be the fifth meeting between the two teams, with Cleveland State owning a 4-0 record in the all-time series.

Scouting The Raiders
Wright State enters the weekend standing at 12-12 on the year, including a 3-2 mark against league opponents. Most recently, the Raiders split their matches in the state of Wisconsin, picking up a 6-1 win over Green Bay and dropping a 4-3 match to Milwaukee. Earlier this season, Wright State was selected to finish fifth in the preseason poll.

This will be the 22nd meeting between the two teams over the last 17 seasons, with the Vikings owning a 16-5 advantage in the all-time series.
