Prosenjak Named #HLWTEN Singles Player Of The Week

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – After helping the Cleveland State women's tennis team remain undefeated in Horizon League play last weekend, freshman Lara Prosenjak has been named the Horizon League Singles Player of the Week. This marks the first weekly accolade for Prosenjak, while it is the second time this season that a Viking has picked up singles player of the week accolades.

"This is a well deserved honor for Lara, she has been working so hard this year to improve her game and I'm so happy that she is seeing all of her hard work pay off on the court," head coach Frank Polito said. "Over the last month Lara has been playing some of the best tennis of her career, and she has been an integral part of our singles lineup, especially against league opponents. I can't wait to see what else Lara is capable of, and where she can help lead this team."

Last week, Prosenjak and the Vikings (12-7, 5-0 HL) posted a 3-0 record at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion, picking up a 6-1 victory over Dayton and a pair of Horizon League wins against Oakland (6-1) and Detroit Mercy (5-2). With the wins, the Vikings extended their current winstreak to seven straight matches, while they also remained unbeaten in league play (5-0) and at the MMTP this season (8-0).

Prosenjak went 3-0 in singles action, extending her individual winstreak to seven straight matches. Against the Flyers, Prosenjak picked up a 6-1, 6-2 victory at the No. 2 spot, while she notched a 6-3, 6-0 win against Oakland and a 6-2, 6-4 win against Detroit Mercy at No. 3 singles.

After the first three weeks of Horizon League play, Prosenjak owns a perfect 5-0 singles record, standing as the only freshman to be undefeated in league play so far this season.

Prosenjak and the Vikings enter the weekend tied for first in the league standings, and will hit the road for the final time during regular season play to take on Northern Kentucky (Saturday, April 13) and Wright State (Sunday, April 14).
