Women’s Tennis Looks To Stay Perfect In #HLWTEN Play Against YSU

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team will continue Horizon League play on the road this weekend, taking on Youngstown State on Saturday, March 30.

Last Time Out…
The Vikings opened Horizon League play with back-to-back wins at Milwaukee (6-1) and Green Bay (7-0), owning a perfect 2-0 record after the first weekend of action for the fourth straight season.

#HLWTEN Preseason Poll
Earlier this season the Vikings were tabbed to finish fourth in the highly competitive 10-team Horizon League field, collecting 69 points to finish behind UIC, Youngstown State and Oakland. This marks the seventh year that the Horizon League has released a preseason tennis poll, with the Vikings now earning a top-four selection in all seven polls.

Vikings On The Road
This weekend's match against Youngstown State will be the final match of a six-match roadswing for the Vikings, as they will play the final three weeks of the month away from home. The Vikings own a 3-2 record during this stretch, and enter the weekend on a three-match winstreak.

Spindler & Mrcela Pick Up Back-To-Back #HLWTEN Doubles Team of the Week Honors
For the second straight week the Cleveland State doubles team of Isabella Spindler and Klara Mrcela earned Horizon League honors, picking up Doubles Team of the Week accolades after earning a pair of wins against Milwaukee and Green Bay. The duo, who owns a perfect 3-0 record as a team, earned a 7-5 win against the Panthers and a 6-3 win against the Phoenix. 

…Spindler Moves Up CSU Doubles Wins List
After picking up two wins at No. 1 doubles last weekend, senior Isabella Spindler moved into a tie for seventh place on the CSU Doubles Wins List, owning 61 career doubles wins. Spindler, who is one of just nine Vikings all-time with 60+ doubles wins, needs just one more win to move into sixth place and two more wins to move into fifth place on the list.

Avram Closing In On 20-Win Season
Entering the second week of Horizon League play, junior Kateryna Avram owns a team-best 18-8 singles record, just two wins shy of recording a 20-win campaign. Avram, who owns a team-high 11 singles wins this spring, enters Saturday's match against YSU on a four-match winstreak, including a pair of wins at No. 6 singles against Milwaukee and Green Bay last weekend.

Scouting The Penguins
Youngstown State enters the weekend with a 4-13 overall record this spring, including a 1-1 mark against league opponents. The Penguins, who were selected to finish second in the #HLWTEN Preseason Poll, split their opening weekend matches against Green Bay (W, 7-0) and Milwaukee (L, 5-2).

This will be the 22nd meeting between the two teams over the last 17 seasons, with Youngstown State owning a 14-7 edge in the all-time series.
