Women’s Tennis Opens #HLWTEN Play At Milwaukee & Green Bay

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team will continue its current six-match roadswing this weekend, traveling to Milwaukee and Green Bay to begin Horizon League play.

Last Time Out…
The Vikings split their matches on their annual Spring Break Trip, picking up a 4-0 victory at Kennesaw State and dropping a tough 4-3 contest at Mercer. Cleveland State's 4-0 win against KSU marked the fifth shutout of the year, and improved the Vikings to 6-7 overall this year. 

#HLWTEN Preseason Poll
Earlier this season the Vikings were tabbed to finish fourth in the highly competitive 10-team Horizon League field, collecting 69 points to finish behind UIC, Youngstown State and Oakland. This marks the seventh year that the Horizon League has released a preseason tennis poll, with the Vikings now earning a top-four selection in all seven polls.

…Cleveland State In Horizon League Play
Over the last 16 seasons the Vikings have posted an overall record of 86-38 against Horizon League teams, including a program-best 8-1 record during the 2016 and 2017 seasons. The Vikings have captured three Horizon League Regular Season titles in program history, capturing the titles during the 2017, 2016 and 2014 campaigns.

Vikings On The Road
This weekend's matches at Milwaukee and Green Bay are part of a six-match roadswing for the Vikings, as Cleveland State will be away from home for the rest of the month of March. Last time out, the Vikings picked up their first road win of the season, earning a 4-0 victory at Kennesaw State.

Spindler Named #HLWTEN Singles Player of the Week
Earlier this week, senior Isabella Spindler was named the Horizon League Singles Player of the Week after posting a 6-4, 6-1 win at the top of the lineup against Kennesaw State. Spindler is the first Viking to earn singles player of the week accolades this season, while the win marked the 52nd victory of her career.

…Spindler & Mrcela Earn #HLWTEN Doubles Team of the Week Honors
Isabella Spindler and Klara Mrcela also picked up Horizon League Doubles Team of the Week accolades, after earning a 6-1 victory at No. 1 doubles against KSU. This was the first time that Spindler and Mrcela played together in the doubles lineup, as they helped the Vikings pick up the early 1-0 advantage against the Owls.

Avram Leads Vikings In Singles Play
Entering Horizon League play, Kateryna Avram owns a team-best 16-8 overall singles record this year, including a 9-3 mark this spring. Avram has played the majority of the spring season at No. 6 singles, owning a 6-2 record at that spot in the lineup.

Scouting The Panthers
Milwaukee enters Saturday's match with a 7-6 record on the year, and is currently riding a five-match winstreak. The Panthers were selected to finish sixth in the #HLWTEN Preseason Poll, collecting 49 points.

This will be the 19th meeting between the two teams, with Cleveland State owning a 15-3 record in the all-time series.

Scouting The Phoenix
Green Bay enters the weekend with a 3-7 overall record this spring, and will face Youngstown State prior to Sunday's matchup against the Vikings. The Phoenix were selected to finish 10th in the #HLWTEN Preseason Poll. 

This will be the 19th meeting between the two teams, with Cleveland State owning a 16-2 advantage in the overall series.
