Doubles Play Leads The Way On Final Day Of Viking Invitational

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team finished play at the Viking Invitational Sunday, posting solid performances during doubles play.

"I thought we played unbelievable doubles today, we are continuing to improve as the fall season goes on, and I'm so happy that we are starting to put things together on the court," head coach Frank Polito said. "Klara and Kate played really well today, probably their best performance all weekend, and Lara took another step forward in her game. Lara does a great job of feeding off of Gaby's energy when they are playing together, which is awesome to see. In singles, we still have a lot of work to do, but I see what we are capable of, so I'm excited to keep working this fall and continue to improve."

In doubles action, the Cleveland State duo of Kateryna Avram and Klara Mrcela picked up a 6-3 win over Bowling Green's Paula Comella and Marharita-Sophia Tavpash, giving the Falcon duo their first loss of the weekend.

The Vikings also picked up a win with Gaby Schoenberg and Lara Prosenjak, as they earned a 6-0 victory over Vanesa Pardo and Marta Bettinelli of Bowling Green.

Cleveland State will return to action at the West Virginia Invitational later this month, participating in the three-day tournament that runs from Friday, October 19 through Sunday, October 21.
